Paul Dano has been cast as The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson in Bill Pohlad’s upcoming biopic Love and Mercy.
According to a press release from distributor River Road Entertainment (published on Deadline), Dano will play young Wilson, while another actor will portray the musical legend as an elder.
The casting of Dano made Wilson… smile (sorry).
“I am thrilled that Paul Dano has signed on to play me during one of my most creative explosions and most fulfilling musical times in my career… I still can’t believe how cool it is that my life will be portrayed on the big screen and to have Bill Pohlad as the captain of the Sloop John B is amazing! It just makes me feel so humble. I can’t wait to see it with a full tub of buttered popcorn.”
Wilson’s life has been marked by extreme creative highs and deep, personal lows; the result of drug dependencies and deteriorating mental health.
Atticus Ross, who co-wrote the Oscar winning score to The Social Network with Trent Reznor, is in talks to work on the soundtrack.
Love and Mercy was written by Oren Moverman (The Messenger).
