Disney has confirmed J.J. Abrams will direct their upcoming Star Wars sequel.
In a joint statement, Disney, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, George Lucas, and Abrams announced how excited they were to work on this film, because, you know, Star Wars.
“I may be even more grateful to George Lucas now than I was as a kid,” Abrams said. Meanwhile, his former boss and idol Steven Spielberg was reported to have slumped his shoulders and dejectedly walked away to the tune of that Charlie Brown song.
The planned re-release of Star Wars Episode 2 and 3 in 3-D has been canned to better accommodate the bow of Episode 7 in 2015.
Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3) scripts.
Abrams next film, Star Trek Into Darkness, hits cinemas in the coming months. It is unknown if he will have any further involvement in this franchise.
