Trailer Debut: Spring Breakers (Red Band)

Harmony Korine’s new film Spring Breakers – featuring James Franco, Selena Gomez, and Vanessa Hudgens – has a new, red-band trailer (from France, no less). It confirms that it will be be one of the more controversial titles of 2013.

Spring Breakers

Those that had the misfortune of seeing Korine’s last feature, the literally unwatchable Trash Humpers, will be well aware of the chasm between his interesting concepts and his horrible final products.

Despite hating everything he has ever produced, I must say that I’m suckered in again by his promotional materials and am now a little excited to see what Spring Breakers is all about.

The film, which tells the story of a group of girls who end up on a crime spree during spring break, was reportedly divisive (to say the least) at its premiere in Toronto last year.

Despite looking like Korine’s most conventional effort yet, it may also be his most subversive. Fans of Gomez or Hudgens who stumble across this film will have no idea what is about to hit them. Trouble maker Korine strikes again.

Spring Breakers does not yet have a local release date.

  1. Agree with you once again Simon in regards to Korine’s work, but damn if this trailer doesn’t sell a whiplash momentum and some interesting performances. Franco looks good in particular.

  2. Sorry, I mean Richard.
