It was recently revealed that J.J. Abrams would helm Star Wars Episode 7, the first instalment of the next Star Wars trilogy, for new Lucasfilm owners Disney.
Considering Disney paid $4 billion for the pleasure, they’re not going to trust just those three films to make back their bank.
Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed this morning that the studio is prepping a bunch of standalone spin-offs from the Star Wars universe, each featuring a beloved supporting character from the previous films in the lead role.
Ain’t It Cool News suggests Yoda will be the first out of the gate.
Previously announced screenwriters Larry Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back) and Simon Kinberg are working on two separate projects.
It is unknown if Michael Arndt’s script for Star Wars Episode 7 will overlap with these standalone tales in anyway.
We figure the individual features will act like the Thors, Iron Man, and Captain Americas of the Marvelverse, while the actual Star Wars episodes will be akin to The Avengers and its upcoming sequels.
Iger stressed that both projects are still in the very early stages.
