Sandra Bullock’s voice will star in Despicable Me spin-off Minions

Sandra Bullock has signed on to voice the evil villain in the Despicable Me spinoff entitled Minions, Deadline reports.

Known more for her romantic comedy roles, Bullock will soon tackle the part of Scarlet Overkill, who has plans for world domination and an army of cute henchmen to help her.

The yellow minions drew attention in 2010’s Despicable Me, where Steve Carrell’s Gru was their evil leader, but this spinoff will take place before they went to work for him.

It’s the 1960s and the minions are on the hunt for a new leader when they attend a convention and compete for the chance to be one of Overkill’s henchmen, ultimately helping her to become the world’s first female super-villain.

Working on a screenplay by Brian Lynch (Hop), Pierre Coffin (Despicable Me) and Kyle Balda (The Lorax) will direct.

Minions will hit cinemas in 2014 after Despicable Me 2 lands mid-2013.
