Kevin Smith may write Clerks 3 as a book

Kevin Smith’s cinematic swan song, Clerks 3, may no longer be released as a movie.

Kevin Smith

Speaking at The Future of Online TV panel in Hollywood – reported by Deadline – he revealed his long-anticipated trilogy-ender may one day emerge as a novel.

He would hope to release it online chapter by chapter, incorporating fan feedback into the tale as it develops.

“I get to go inside the characters’ heads, tell Year One origin stories where the first chapter is Dante and Randall meeting in kindergarten, all the stuff I can’t do in a movie… That’s what I want to do, because I’m a stoner. I want to investigate the inner life of every character, and I can’t do that in 90 minutes with a film.”

However, Smith ultimately suggested a movie “would be the ultimate expression of Clerks 3.”

It would almost certainly be a more financially successful endeavour.

He has also toyed with the idea of releasing it in short instalments online.

It is unknown whether or not this will follow his years-in-the-making hockey flick Hit Somebody, or vice versa.

  1. According to Smodcast, Hit Somebody is set to become a miniseries on TV. He’s keeping the network that has picked it up close to the vest though.
