The French trailer for the much-talked about Two Mothers has arrived online, giving us a first glimpse at the saucy, Australian-set drama.
Based on Doris Lessing’s less-sexily titled novel The Grandmothers, it features Naomi Watts and Robin Wright as two friends who lust over one another’s sons (Xavier Samuel, James Frecheville).
In what is perhaps more reminiscent of The Lonely Island‘s “Motherlovers” and 30 Rock‘s “MILF Island” than any serious drama should be, the quartet engage in dual affairs.
The Anne Fontaine-directed flick debuted at Sundance, where it received some unwelcome laughter.
Fontaine expressed her shock at the audience’s response at a post screening Q&A: “I thought it was [received as] a comedy, more or less. I don’t know what it means exactly.”
Vulture‘s Kyle Buchanan described it as “the best and worst of the fest.”
Needless to say, we’re intrigued.
it does not yet have a local release date.
