Teaser Debut: The Bling Ring

The first teaser trailer for Sophia Coppola’s The Bling Ring continues the dialogue-light, soundtrack-heavy, dream-like tradition she’s come to be known for.

The film is based on the real life events, as the trailer reminds you by splashing it across the screen, of The Bling Ring.

Also called the Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch, they were a group of teenagers who robbed celebrity homes over the course of a year, totalling $3 million in stolen clothes and jewellery.

Their targets included Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, and Lindsay Lohan.

The teaser gives little plot information and relies on the viewer’s awareness of this case to fill in the gaps, but is stylistically tempting, as a teaser should be, and showcases the hot young cast, Emma Watson included.

The Bling Ring looks to be an interesting follow up to Coppola’s Somewhere; the spotlight once again on fame and with the group harnessing the power of social media to track celebrities they considered fashion icons.
