Safety Not Guaranteed’s Colin Trevorrow to direct Jurassic Park 4

Colin Trevorrow has been named director of Jurassic Park 4The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.

While his name may not be known to many at the moment, Trevorrow made his impressive feature film debut just last year with the indie sci-fi Safety Not Guaranteed.

It’s quite a leap for the director, who is now preparing to take on the fourth instalment in Steven Spielberg’s epic dinosaur franchise.

Trevorrow will helm Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver’s (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) screenplay, with Patrick Crowley producing and Spielberg executive producing.

Universal has confirmed that Jurassic Park 4 would be filmed in 3D and is set for a 2014 release.

There’s no word yet on what the fourth film will explore, but the studio is certainly hoping it’s more reminiscent of the first two films in the franchise, which were both directed by Spielberg, and less like the third film, which “only” made $368 million worldwide.

The original Jurassic Park is set for a 3D re-release in May.
