You knew it was bound to happen at some point. The Hollywood Reporter recently announced a sequel/remake/reboot of National Lampoon’s Vacation, the classic Chevy Chase film that ushered several sequels of diminishing returns.
Christina Applegate is in talks to play the role of beleaguered wife and the production team of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daly have been tapped to write and direct.
Ed Helms was previously announced to take the lead role of Rusty, patriarch of the family.
Fans of the series will note that Rusty was the name of the Griswold’s son in the original series and the plot of this film seems to hinge on the idea that Rusty is now grown up and taking his own family on a cross country “vacation.”
Goldstein and Daly are best known for their incredibly mediocre screenplays to Horrible Bosses and recently The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, so temper your expectations for this one folks.
At this stage Chevy Chase has not been approached to play grandfather Griswold.
