Clint Eastwood is reported to be eyeing the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Jersey Boys for a big screen treatment.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eastwood would be putting his much-publicised A Star Is Born remake on the backburner to focus on the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons for Warner Bros.
The musical, which opened on Broadway in 2005, is ripe for the Silver Screen treatment, especially following the box office success of recent movie musicals including Les Miserables (although one can’t help but remember the nightmare that was Rock of Ages, another adaptation that sank instead of soared).
The Jersey Boys movie had originally been over at Columbia Pictures with Iron Man director Jon Favreau slated to direct, but the film was moved late last year to Warner before falling into turnaround.
Should Eastwood be successful in claiming Jersey Boys, he’ll direct that picture before returning to A Star Is Born.
