Tim Burton has signed on to direct Big Eyes for The Weinstein Company, Deadline reports.
The film has been in limbo for many years, with screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski finally seeing some progress with the casting of Amy Adams (The Master) and Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) in the two lead roles.
With Burton’s appointment, the film is set to begin production in the coming months.
Burton has worked with Alexander and Karaszewski before on Ed Wood, and we can’t wait to see his spin on this truly unique story. Big Eyes recounts the story of the couple, Walter and Margaret Keane, behind the large eyed children paintings that were hits in the 50s and 60s, and now litter charity stores and hip urban eateries.
The flick will cover their rise to fame and success, with Walter stepping forward as the business brains and taking creative credit.
Their divorce prompted Margaret to take Walter to court, where it was exposed that she was the true artist and Walter an imposter.
