The feature trailer for The Hunger Games‘ sequel, Catching Fire, debuted during the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. Handily, it is now online for legions to gawk at.
Catching Fire features Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) – (spoiler alert) – the winners of the 74th Annual Hunger Games, touring the districts as a means of distracting the poverty-stricken citizens from their terrible lives.
When a revolution starts a’brewing, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) conspires with Plutarch Heavensbee (series newcomer Philip Seymour Hoffman) to wipe out not only Katniss but all winners of previous Hunger Games competitions, who are starting to inspire rebellion amongst the masses.
Catching Fire looks to have a somewhat different structure to its predecessor, which will make the return to its universe much easier. After all, it’s only been 12 months since the first adaptation of Suzanne Collins set the box office on fire. You don’t want to bore audiences with overexposure. Hopefully this instalment will be a refreshing change of pace.
Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Liam Hemsworth, and Stanley Tucci all return for the sequel.
Director Gary Ross has been replaced by Francis Lawrence.
It hits cinemas in November.
