Forest Whitaker in talks to play Martin Luther King Jr. for Paul Greengrass

Forest Whitaker is in talks to play Martin Luther King Jr in Paul Greengrass’ gritty upcoming biopic, The Wrap reports.

Titled Memphis, the film purportedly follows King’s last days as he organises what turns out to be his last protest march.

King’s family, who are developing their own separate biopic, have objected to Greengrass’ film, which aims to depict MLK Jr. “warts and all,” covering the problems in King’s marriage as well as his hesitations regarding the future of the black protest movement.

Greengrass’ background is in documentary, despite him spending his last few films kicking up dust with Matt Damon in the Bourne films and Green Zone.

So, this may have a more realistic flair to it, reminiscent of his more intense docudrama styled projects like United 93 or Bloody Sunday.
