Warner Bros. motion pictures group president Jeff Robinov must have guts of Steel.
Robinov told Variety he predicts the studio’s upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel will be their highest performer ever.
That would mean topping the billion dollar grosses of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
The picture, starring Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman, is on track to claim $100 million on its first weekend in America (it opens there June 14).
Critical buzz on the Zack Snyder directed, Christopher Nolan produced feature is also strong, meaning it might just have legs to crack that magic billion dollar mark.
And it might just need to, with a production price tag of $225 million, not to mention the further $150 million spent on marketing.
Still, as the old William Goldman adage goes, in Hollywood, nobody knows anything.
It’s never a good idea to count your chickens before they come home to roost.
Warner Bros. last DC adaptation was the pricey flop Green Lantern.
