Talks of a sequel to David Fincher’s English-language remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo have been muted of late, the result of its not-spectacular box office performance in 2011.
The Wrap now reports there is some life in the project yet, with Fincher’s Se7en screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker having been tasked by Sony to adapt Stieg Larsson’s follow-up novel, The Girl Who Played With Fire.
That’s not to say we’ll see the sequel anytime soon.
Fincher is busy working on bringing the best-selling Gone Girl to the screen, whilst also developing 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for Disney.
Sony might wind up hiring another director for the franchise, The Wrap’s source warns.
But then there’s the availability of the cast that needs to be considered, Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig’s timelines only syncing up for an early 2014 shoot.
It’s probably too early to ask if there’ll be a third instalment.
