Trailer Debut: The Fifth Estate

Benedict Cumberbatch debuts his Aussie accent in the trailer for The Fifth Estate, in which he plays controversial WikiLeaks founder and bad haircut-haver Julian Assange.

Directed by Bill Condon and scripted by Josh Singer, the picture details Assange’s rise to infamy through the eyes of his colleague Daniel Domscheit-Berg (Daniel Brühl).

It marks the third film about Assange to arrive this year, following the Australian telemovie Underground – covering Julian’s youth – and the Alex Gibney documentary We Steal Secrets.

Condon’s feature looks more like a political thriller than the others. With Cumberbatch in a high profile, showy role, it could also be a major Oscar player.

The Fifth Estate also stars Laura Linney, Anthony Mackie, Peter Capaldi, and David Thewlis.

It hits cinemas November 7.
