Trailer Debut: Paradise

The trailer for Diablo Cody’s directorial debut, Paradise, hit the internet recently and it looks unexpectedly… bland.

After bursting onto the scene with the screenplay for Juno in 2007, Cody has produced interesting work, including her scripts for Jennifer’s Body and Young Adult, to her great TV series with Toni Collette, The United States Of Tara.

So, it’s all the more shocking that this trailer for her upcoming Paradise comes across as so dull.

Starring the forgettable Julianne Hough, the film follows a young religious girl who, after surviving a plane crash, travels to Las Vegas to let her wild side free.

Co-starring Russell Brand, Octavia Spencer, and Nick Offerman, we can only hope this trailer is some red herring designed to trick us all into thinking it’s a vanilla telemovie when in fact it’s something much more transgressive.

It does not yet have a local release date, but it hits American cinemas in October.
