Sharlto Copley “would welcome the pressure” of District 10

Sharlto Copley believes a sequel to District 9 is an inveitability, with director Neill Blomkamp’s busy schedule being the only obstacle.

We spoke to Copley ahead of the release of his new feature, Elysium, and asked if District 10 was still on the table.

“I think it’s a matter of when, not if. Certainly, I would welcome the pressure [of being the star, once again].

“We’ve got a great story. We’re going to South Africa now to do another film that isn’t a sequel [Chappie], because Neill’s got a lot of ideas, but I still think it will happen.”

How do they plan on explaining the tardiness of alien Christopher Johnson, who promised to return to Earth and save Copley’s Wikus van der Merwe?

“Somebody was saying to me, ‘But it’s been three years. Christopher’s supposed to have been back!’

“And I said, ‘Well, you don’t know that prawn years are the same as human years.”
