Adam Scott plays an Adult Child of Divorce in the Sundance hit A.C.O.D.
The endlessly endearing Scott stars as a man who discovers his parents (Richard Jenkins, Catherine O’Hara) allowed a social psychologist (Jane Lynch) to study him as a kid, as a means of evaluating the effect of their divorce on his development.
That discovery sends him into an existential crisis, driving him away from his reliable girlfriend (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and into the arms of a fellow former subject (Jessica Alba).
This indie comedy – directed by Stuart Zicherman and written by Zicherman and Ben Karlin – received fine notices out of Sundance, and with such an appealing cast, should find an audience out in the real world. It’s especially nice to see Scott entrusted with a leading role.
The weird part, though? Amy Poehler plays Scott’s step-mom, which will be a jarring sight for those invested in the relationship of Leslie and Ben from Parks and Recreation.
It arrives in U.S. cinemas October 4, with a local release to follow.
