James Spader to play Ultron in The Avengers 2

James Spader has scored the villainous part of Ultron in Joss Whedon’s upcoming sequel to The Avengers. Marvel broke the news on their website.

Ultron is a mad, sentient robot who, in the comics, takes over Earth, leaving dead superheroes in its wake.

It is unknown if Spader will don a suit to portray the bot, or will simply lend his voice and have his actions motion-captured for an animated rendering.

Whedon took to Twitter to share that he’s “mad thrilled” about the casting coup.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to hit cinemas in 2015.

Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, and Samuel L. Jackson are all set to reprise their roles from the original, with Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson rumoured to join the cast as the brother-sister team of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.
