The trailer for Jose Padilha’s long-delayed remake of Robocop has arrived.
It stars Joel Kinnaman as Officer Alex Murphy, a maimed cop kept alive by his department solely for experimentation purposes.
With his wife’s (Abbie Cornish) blessing, they turn Murphy into the latest crime-fighting weapon in a dystopian Detroit: Robocop.
Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman, and Jay Baruchel play the engineers responsible for Murphy’s transformation.
Samuel L. Jackson, Michael K. Williams, and Jackie Earle Haley also pop up in the flick.
Though many have been dismissive of Padilha’s attempts to update Paul Verhoeven’s legendary sci-fi satire, the cast assembled here certainly warrants our attention.
What looks to be most controversial, however, are the changes made to Robocop’s suit. Gone is the famous gun metal grey, replaced with a sleek, shiny, black outfit.
But let’s save that debate for when we see the whole film, and that time will come February 2014.
