The Rocket to be Australia’s great Oscar hope

The Rocket

The Rocket will be Australia’s entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards, The Australian reports.

This heart-warming coming of age story set in Laos comes from Australian director Kim Mordaunt, and has been winning over viewers around the globe.

Snagging Audience Awards at the Tribeca, Sydney, and Melbourne Film Festivals while also winning several awards in Berlin earlier in the year, The Rocket looks to have a real shot at getting a nomination in this notoriously difficult category.

Cate Shortland’s Lore came close last year, but Mordaunt’s gloriously crowd-pleasing and richly detailed film is our best chance in years to snatch a nomination.
