Alexander Payne follows up Oscar winner The Descendants with the low-key, black-and-white road movie Nebraska.
It stars Bruce Dern as a grumpy old man falsely convinced of a sweepstakes victory, and Will Forte as the son who joins him on his journey to collect the prize.
Dern nabbed the Best Actor prize at Cannes earlier in the year, meaning that this could prove to be another big Oscar contender for Payne come 2014.
Nice to see a bit of Payne’s darkly comic bite back following the maudlin Descendants. (Though, Payne isn’t credited with the script this time around; that honour belongs to Bob Nelson.)
It hits American cinemas this November. A local release follows on Boxing Day.
