Jennifer Lawrence will star in a new adaptation of John Steinbeck’s East of Eden, Deadline reports.
Her Hunger Games director, Gary Ross, will direct the Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment co-production.
Ross – who cites the book as his “favourite American novel” – is planning on making two films out of it.
Lawrence will play Cathy Ames in the picture, estranged wife of a farmer, and mother to two competitive sons.
Elia Kazan previously brought the picture to the big screen in 1955.
Lawrence and Ross are also shopping around a potential adaptation of Hannah Kent’s Burial Rites.
Kent’s book tells of a Icelandic woman accused of murder back in 1829.
