Waterworld director to make Jesus movie The Resurrection

The director of Waterworld is working on a new film set soon after Jesus Christ’s death.

According to Slashfilm, Kevin Reynolds will helm The Resurrection, based on a script he co-wrote with Karen Janszen and Paul Aiello.

The feature will take place in the 40 days following Christ’s crucifixion, and follow an “agnostic Roman Centurion who’s assigned by Pontius Pilate to look into the rumours that the Jewish Messiah has risen.”

There’s something of a Bible boom in Hollywood right now, with Ridley Scott shooting Exodus and Darren Aronofsky’s Noah set for release in 2014.

The Resurrection is scheduled for the 2015 Easter weekend, where it would face off against The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
