Brie Larson set to join Mark Wahlberg in The Gambler

Brie Larson

Brie Larson is in talks to play the female lead opposite Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming remake of The Gambler.

According to Deadline, negotiations are in the very early stages.

It seems all that Oscar buzz she’s getting for Short Term 12 (in which she plays a foster care worker) is doing great things for her career.

Larson previously starred in – and stole – 21 Jump Street as well as the TV series United States of Tara.

The Gambler was originally produced in 1974 and starred James Caan in the title role.

This do-over has been penned by William Monahan (The Departed) and will be directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).

Jessica Lange is also reportedly wanted for a key role in the flick.
