Five months after its cinematic release, Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby has broken into the MPDAA’s Top 5 Australian Films of All Time, based on box office receipts.
According to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia, Gatsby has grossed $28.27 million at the Australian box office, trumping Moulin Rouge‘s tally of $27.73 million.
This puts Gatsby at number five on the list of Australia’s highest grossing local films.
Crocodile Dundee sits atop the list with an impressive $47.7 million, while Luhrmann’s own Australia is a distant second at $37.55 million.
Babe and Happy Feet round out the Top 5.
Internationally, Gatsby is Baz’s biggest hit by a wide margin, having collected almost $350 million worldwide.
