Trailer Debut: Labor Day

Labor Day

Josh Brolin has another idea what you can use leftover peaches for in the first trailer for Labor Day.

Written and directed by Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air), Brolin stars as Frank, an escaped convict, serving 18 years for murder, who latches onto teenager Henry (Gattlin Griffith) and his mother Adele (Kate Winslet) at the shops.

He takes shelter at their house over the Labor Day weekend as the police search for him widens.

Adele has fallen into a deep depression since her husband left but the arrival of Frank reignites a spark in her as they pay tribute to the pottery wheel scene in Ghost while making peach pie.

The trailer has a definite Nicholas Sparks vibe to it but is actually based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Maynard, who also wrote To Die For.

It seems an unusual choice for Reitman after the success of his past films, but let’s hope the Mills and Boon style of the trailer isn’t carried over into the film.

Labor Day arrives in cinemas February 6, 2014.
