‘Fast and Furious’ director Justin Lin to drive ‘Bourne’ sequel

Premiere Of Universal Pictures' "Fast & Furious 6" - Red Carpet

Fast and Furious helmer Justin Lin has been tapped by Universal to direct the upcoming sequel to The Bourne Legacy, Deadline reports.

The next instalment of the Bourne saga will, once again, concern Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross character.

It will likely hit cinemas in 2015.

Though it was rumoured Universal wanted Matt Damon to pop up as Jason Bourne in the inevitable sequel to the money-spinning franchise, Lin’s hiring basically guarantees that won’t happen. (Damon has previously insisted he would only return if Paul Greengrass is at the wheel.)

Lin directed instalments three, four, five, and six of the Fast and Furious saga, turning it into Universal’s biggest franchise in the process.

No doubt they want him to work the same magic on the slowly flagging Bourne series.

The irony, of course, is that Lin succeeded by drawing back the original cast-members.

He may not have the luxury this time around.
