Trailer Debut: ‘Noah’

Darren Aronofsky’s long-awaited Biblical drama Noah was always going to be an epic undertaking, and the newly released trailer is evidence of that.

What we are surprised about in the new trailer is how, well, conventional it seems.

The choral, inspirational score; speechifying from Russell Crowe’s Noah and Anthony Hopkins’ Methuselah; Ray Winstone’s villain going all fire and brimstone.

All great elements … for a Ridley Scott movie. But this is Darren Freaking Aronofsky, of Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, and Black Swan fame.

The last time he attempted something on this big a scale was The Fountain, a financial flop and hubristic boondoggle, but an interesting and uniquely Aronofskian feature.

This don’t look like the latter at all.

We shall, of course, reserve our judgement of Noah until we see the full film in March of 2014.
