The Hunger Games: Catching Fire made a lot of money this weekend, across all Districts, and even in The Capitol.
According to Box Office Mojo, Catching Fire grossed $158 million in the U.S. alone, obliterating The Twilight Saga: New Moon‘s previous November record of $142 million.
It collected a further $146 million globally, with $12.475 million of that coming from Australia.
Though it was unable to trump Iron Man 3‘s opening weekend – still 2013’s biggest hit – it enjoyed a larger take than the original Hunger Games movie.
With more than $300 million already in the till, and extremely positive word of mouth, Catching Fire should have no trouble outdoing The Hunger Games’ final tally of $691 million.
The grosses are ever in its favour.
