The teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar has arrived online, sending the internet into a tizzy, despite it mostly being a teary-eyed Matthew McConaughey driving a ute.
Much of the teaser is made up of real-life footage from NASA expeditions, with a voice over from McConaughey lamenting the end of humanity’s willingness to explore the cosmos.
Amongst that old footage, however, seems to be a shot of McConaughey’s character in one of the space shuttles.
As the teaser ends, with a man and child admiring a spaceship launching, we’re left wondering whether Nolan’s tale is a spin on the past of space exploration, or an imagined glimpse into the future.
Plot details are, as you can imagine, tightly under wraps. Here’s the synopsis revealed so far:
“When a wormhole (which hypothetically connects widely-separated regions of spacetime) is newly discovered, a team of explorers and scientists embark on a voyage through it to transcend previous limitations on human space travel.”
This isn’t as explosive a teaser as Inception‘s was, but it does the job. (Of teasing, that is).
Interstellar also stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Michael Caine. It hits cinemas November 2014.
