Marvel has finally unveiled the trailer for their great weird hope, Guardians of the Galaxy.
In it, a couple of space cops (played, awesomely, by John C. Reilly and Peter Serafinowicz) introduce us to the five intergalactic criminals/heroes who make up this oddball quintet.
There’s Star Lord Peter Quill (played with Han Solo-ish charm by FBI Agent Bert Mac… I mean, Chris Pratt), green-tinged Gamora (Zoe Saldana), big dude Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), giant tree Groot (Vin Diesel), and, of course, Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper).
Though we don’t get to hear Diesel or Cooper’s voices for their CGI characters, we do get a good idea of the film’s sense of humour, and quick glimpses of villainous co-stars Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, and Karen Gillan.
Also, Serafinowicz closes the trailer by referring to our heroes as ‘a-holes’.
So! This should be an interesting experiment for Marvel, who are road-testing completely unknown characters for the first time in their short yet hugely profitable film career.
James Gunn directs Guardians of the Galaxy, due for release this August.
