We may be nearing the first official casting announcement for Star Wars: Episode VII… and it’s a doozy.
Girls star Adam Driver is in final negotiations to play the big bad villain in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars sequel, THR reports.
It’s believed he’s scored the role that both Michael Fassbender and Joel Kinnaman were previously in consideration for.
Of course, there are no major details about this part available, though there are rumblings he is playing a character somewhat akin to Darth Vader.
Driver was most recently seen on the big screen in the Coens’ Inside Llewyn Davis, where he presciently played a folk singer who often recited the phrase ‘Outer Space.’
His Girls co-star Lena Dunham Tweeted her support thusly:
“We’re VERY proud of Adam Driver re: Star Wars. He’s about to rip a hole in da force. Is that a thing? I guess I should see those movies?”
She’ll have her shot when Star Wars: Episode VII hits cinemas late 2015.
