See Quvenzhané Wallis in the trailer for Jay Z’s ‘Annie’ remake

They really did it. Producers Will Smith and Jay Z remade Annie and cast Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) in the lead. We have the trailer now as proof.

Though the teaser feels like a Funny or Die parody to begin with, those tunes from the classic musical are just too infectious to deny.

Coupled with the unbridled enthusiasm of noted hams Jamie Foxx (as orphan Annie’s prospective new dad) and Cameron Diaz (as her cruel foster mother), Annie 2.0 might actually be a bit of fun.

The picture comes from Easy A helmer Will Gluck (another promising tick in the film’s favour). An early script was written by Emma Thompson, but it doesn’t look like she’s credited on the final feature.

It comes out tomor… er, actually, this Christmas.
