Fletch to live again as Jason Sudeikis enters talks with Warner Bros to star in the remake Fletch Won, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It was another Saturday Night Live alumnus, Chevy Chase, who brought the investigative journalist to life on screen in the 1985 film Fletch and its sequel. Based on the novels by Gregory McDonald, the remake has been in development since rights were picked up by WB in 2011.
Fletch Won is said to follow the tone of McDonald’s novels more than the original flicks, and has been described as “a gritty action comedy with heart.” No director is currently attached, but the film’s producers, Steve Golin, Michael Sugar and David List, have begun their search.
If Sudeikis moves forward with Fletch Won it will mark his first major lead since leaving SNL and pursuing a film career. His last ensemble comedy, We’re the Millers, was a surprise box office hit.
