Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd – former political adversaries on Parks and Recreation – play soulmates in David Wain’s rom-com spoof They Came Together.
Theirs is the truest kind of love; the kind forged by a shared love of “fiction books” and realised only after disastrous dates with awful alternatives, bad advice from bros, and temptations from totally manipulative exes.
Director David Wain – of Wet Hot American Summer fame – is skewering the genre pretty mercilessly from the looks of this trailer.
With help from his regular compatriots Rudd, Michael Showalter, Ken Marino, and Michael Ian Black, not to mention Cobie Smulders, Christopher Meloni, Ellie Kemper, Bill Hader, Adam Scott, Ed Helms, Jack McBrayer, Kenan Thompson, and, according to IMDB, Norah Jones, They Came Together actually has a more impressive cast than most of the romantic comedies Wain is spoofing.
It arrives in the US this June, with an Australian release to hopefully follow.
