Baz Luhrmann in talks to direct Elvis biopic

Baz Luhrmann may have found his follow-up to The Great Gatsby.

According to The Wrap, the Aussie filmmaker is in final negotiations to helm an Elvis Presley biopic for Warner Bros.

Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks, Fifty Shades of Grey) is working on the script, apparently not based on any pre-existing material.

Luhrmann has been going back and forth with WB for several weeks, nearing a proper deal.

He’s expected to bring along his wife and frequent collaborator Catherine Martin to act as costume designer and production designer should he sign on.

Martin, who picked up two Oscars for Gatsby in March, holds the records for the most Academy Awards received by an Australian.
