Edgar Wright will direct Ant-Man … NO MORE.
After an eight-year flirtation, Marvel and Wright have gone their separate ways, citing “differences in their vision of the film.”
According to Marvel’s statement, the July 2015 release date will not be impacted.
Wright had been attached to the feature since 2006.
Joss Whedon, one of the creative leaders at Marvel, Tweeted an image of himself forlornly holding a Cornetto; a reference to Wright’s ‘Cornetto Trilogy’ and a seeming statement of solidarity with his fallen brother.
Paul Rudd stars in Ant-Man as the title character, and will be joined by Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michael Pena.
It is unknown if Wright and Joe Cornish’s draft of the screenplay will still be used. (It’s rumoured that Marvel’s retooling of the script is precisely what led to his exit.)
Expect a new director to be announced shortly.
