Screen Australia has set aside funding for Blue Dog, a prequel to 2011’s hugely successful hit Red Dog.
Director Kriv Stenders and writer Daniel Taplitz will return for this prequel.
Sadly, don’t expect Koko, the dog who played the title character last time around, to pop up on screen. He passed away in 2012.
Producers are already on the lookout for an animal to take-over the part.
Red Dog is among the ten highest grossing Australian films at the local box office, taking in more than $20 million.
Blue Dog is one of two feature films receiving funding from Screen Australia, the other being Grant Scicluna’s mystery Downriver.
