Everything old is new again!
According to Variety, Roland Emmerich will direct a reboot of his 1994 picture Stargate, intended as the first entry in a new trilogy.
Emmerich’s frequent collaborator Dean Devlin is also back to produce.
Stargate grossed more than $200 million worldwide, but the franchise is probably better known today for its TV spin-offs, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis.
Independence Day 2 and gay-rights drama Stonewall were thought to be among consideration for Emmerich’s next project. It will be interesting to see which of these three makes it to the big screen first.
