‘Sexpionage’ thriller ‘Red Sparrow’ arouses David Fincher and Rooney Mara

You had us at ‘sexpionage’.

According to Deadline, Fox has hired American Hustle screenwriter Eric Warren Singer to adapt Jason Matthews’ novel Red Sparrow for the screen.

Though he’s yet to start work, the suggestion of David Fincher and Rooney Mara being interested in the flick should put some fire under his feet.

Mara would star as a Russian spy who is “a trained seductress in the art of ‘sexpionage,’” tasked with tracking a young CIA officer.

If they were to sign on, Red Sparrow would mark the third collaboration between Fincher and Mara, following The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. 

Oh, and there was that perfume ad they did too.
