Sonic, beloved video game character and bane of egg-shaped doctors around the world, is ready for his close-up.
Deadline reports a new partnership between Sony and SEGA, which will result in one new feature film based around Sonic the Hedgehog per year.
That’s the plan anyway, with each movie focusing on SEGA legend Sonic facing off against his various nemeses.
The Sonic movies would be a hybrid of animation and live-action, just like Sony’s wildly successful Smurfs franchise.
Just as The Smurfs were massively popular in Europe, Sonic comes with a huge international fan base (particularly in Asia).
Smart move, really; especially for a studio looking for a new family franchise. But one movie a year? Marvel barely covers that at the moment with their entire fleet of Avengers. I guess Tails will need to get camera ready too.
