Your new favourite movie – Sundance winner An Education

Fresh from yesterday’s clip of Sundance favourite 500 Days of Summer, Collider have a batch of vids from the Audience Award winning film An Education.

The Lone Scherfig film was written by Nick Hornby (his first original screenplay), and was considered one of the best films screening in competition at Sundance this year.

Set in 1961, the film is about a 16-year-old schoolgirl named Jenny (newcomer Carey Mulligan), on the brink of womanhood and raring to escape her stifling life in London. She falls in love with 30-something David (Peter Sarsgaard), who is a charming, if unlikely suitor. Will she leave London for Oxford University and have the life she always dreamed of, or will David tempt her away?

Along with the Audience Award (basically their favourite of the fest), the film also picked up a prize for its cinematography. I’m not a massive fan of Nick Hornby’s books, but his stories always translate better to film. High Fidelity and About a Boy are two of my favourite movies(although the less said about The Perfect Catch, the better).

I don’t know about you, but I think Zooey Deschanel should be getting nervous right about now. Carey is going to be the new name on all the kids lips. The picture also stars Alfred Molina and Dominic Cooper An Education opens in the US late in the year. The film probably won’t reach our shores until early 2010. A damn shame.
