Woody Allen has teamed up with Seinfeld-creator and star of Curb Your Enthusiasm Larry David for his latest comedy Whatever Works.
The film, written and directed by Allen as usual, stars David as a rich curmudgeon who marries a young woman from the south (Evan Rachel Wood) and gets caught up in the antics of her crazy family.
What’s that you say? Larry David playing a rich curmudgeon? That’s unusual. And wait, Woody Allen’s written a film in which an older gentleman romances a young, barely legal girl? Well this is a movie of firsts!

I’m a big fan of Allen’s work (yes, even Sleeper), and although I enjoyed his European escapades Match Point and Vicky Cristina Barcelona, it’s nice to see him tell another New York-based story.
Whatever Works looks like it features another perfect cast. The brilliant Larry David has always been the grumpier-man’s Woody Allen; full of self-loathing, a biting comic tongue and a pretty big narcissistic streak. We’re big fans of Evan Rachel Wood here at Quickflix too. And I maintain that any movie can be improved with the addition of Patricia Clarkson and Ed Begley Jr to the cast.
Whatever Works opens June 19, 2009 in the U.S. As of yet there has been no Australian release date set. Fire up those emails!
