Universal Pictures have acquired the Australian distribution rights to Matthew Vaughn‘s highly anticipated superhero flick Kick Ass.
The film will hit Australian cinemas April 8th, 2010. That is one week before its American release.
Kick Ass is based on Mark Millar’s comic book series of the same name. It stars Aaron Johnson as a teenage boy whose love for fictional superheros inspires him to become a costumed vigilante. It also stars Nicolas Cage, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Moretz.
The $70 million flick has had quite a run this year. Millar and Vaughn were originally unable to get studio funding, so they decided to make the film independently. After debuting footage at Comic Con earlier this year to rapturous acclaim, the studios entered a bidding war to secure distribution.

In the meantime, mark your calendars! That date again is April 8th, 2010!
Discuss: We got through the entire article without making a laborious pun about the film’s title. Kick ass! Oh wait…
