Spider-Man jumps aboard the 3D bandwagon

Sony Pictures have announced that their upcoming Spider-Man reboot will be released in 3-D. That’s right. Three glorious dimensions of web-slinging action.

The Marc Webb directed superhero flick will hit cinemas July 3rd, 2012. It will go head-to-head with Star Trek 2, which lands June 29, 2012.

Based on a screenplay by James Vanderbilt, Spidey 2.0 will take Peter Parker back to high school. It is still unknown who will play the legendary Marvel hero. Logan Lerman, star of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, revealed last week that he was in discussions to take on the role. Sony was quick to deny the validity of the claims – standard operating procedure really.

It was announced last month that neither Sam Raimi nor Tobey Maguire (director and star of the first three Spider-man films) would return for another Spider-Man installment.

Discuss: OK, we’ve talked about this a million times already, but who would you like to see play the new Peter Parker?
