>Well, OK then! If you thought news of Will Smith remaking the musical Annie as a vehicle for his hair-whipping daughter was off the reservation, wait until you hear this…
According to THR, Warner Brothers are gearing up to reboot a number of their most beloved properties after the recent departure of studio exec Jessica Goodman. Following Goodman’s exit at the end of 2010, WB redistributed the titles that had been burning in the eternal fire of development hell under her watch.
Some of the most enticing projects now attracting talent agents throughout Hollywood include new takes on Lethal Weapon (which already has a screenwriter attached), Westworld, The Dirty Dozen and The Wild Bunch. Also, the George Burns comedy Oh, God, but that’s hardly as revered as the others.
Of course, it could all be excited chatter at this point, and we may never see these films reach the light of day. That being said, Will Smith is rebooting Annie as a vehicle for his hair-whipping daughter.
Discuss: Do reboots of any of these films sound appealing?
>No. I am increasingly despairing of the movies slated for future release. Who on earth is running the studios? Why can't they come up with original ideas? Whilst Mel is in purgatory of late, to redo Lethal Weapon is sacrilege! What's next….Grease?
