Trailer Debut: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Ooh, chimpanzee that! The trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes has debuted online.

Formerly known as Rise of the Apes, the film stars James Franco as a young scientist who tries to advance the intelligence of apes, which is all well and good, until his primary subject Caesar (a mo-capped Andy Serkis) wages war against humanity. Damn dirty apes!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a prequel to the 1968 classic Planet of the Apes, and not Tim Burton‘s misfire of a reboot from 2001. (Did someone say Ape Lincoln?)

Head on over to Apple to watch the trailer, or click the image below!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, directed by Rupert Wyatt, also stars Freida Pinto and John Lithgow. It arrives in Australian cinemas August 4.

Discuss: The team at WETA Digital have done some real nice work on the apes, but could audiences potentially find the idea of talking chimps running around the city a little silly?
